There are several youth divisions within the Amateur Athletic Association (AAU) and the USA Track and Field Association (USATF). Divisions are based on the year the athlete is born. These age divisions provide young athletes the opportunity to compete with other athletes of similar ability. Amateur Athletic Association (AAU) Division (Based on Age as of 12/31 of current year)
USA Track & Field (USATF) Division (Based on Age as of 12/31 of current year)
*Athletes who are eighteen(18) years of age through the final day of the National Track & Field Championships (AAU Junior Olympic Games or USATF Jr. Olympics) shall be eligible to compete in the Young Men's and Young Women's division. Anyone who reaches his/her nineteenth (19) birthday on or before the last day of the National Championship Meet, is not eligible to compete in any qualifying meets. All athletes must run in the correct age group. Primary, Sub-Bantam, Bantam, Sub-Midget and Midget Divisions are limited to three (3) events only, including relays. Sub-Youth, Youth, Intermediate and Young Men/Women Divisions may enter in four (4) events only, including relays. Entry in a relay, either as a principal runner or an alternate member, will be considered an entry for the purpose of this rule. Indoor Track & Field Events
